Congratulations on your new eBook. We are including the .mobi file as well as the .epub file so that you have the correct file format for your eReader. In case you don’t remember (or never knew in the first place) how to load a book onto your eReader that you didn’t buy through Apple, Barnes & Noble or Amazon, here are some instructions. If you have trouble loading your eBook, just let us know.

How To Load Your eBook Onto Your eReader

Congratulations on your new eBook! Okay, you got it. Now what?

There are two basics formats for eBooks. There’s the .mobi file and the .epub file. There’s also PDF, but we are going to be talking about the first two.

What’s difference?

The .mobi is the format used by Kindle eReaders. Epub is generally used by everything else- most notably Apple readers, Nook and Kobo readers.

Once you buy an eBook, you have to get it loaded onto your device. When you buy books directly from Amazon, it automatically loads onto your Kindle. Same thing with Nook and Barnes & Noble. When you buy through a different website, you have to load them onto your device. It isn’t difficult. I’m going to walk you through it.

Kindle:

If you have the USB cable that came with your Kindle, this is super easy.

Step 1: You download the file onto your computer.

Step 2: Then you connect your Kindle to the computer using the USB cable.

Step 3: After that, you just drag the .mobi file and drop it into the documents folder of the Kindle.

That’s it.

If you don’t have the USB cable, you can email it to your Kindle. Each of your devices with a Kindle app (including your Kindle itself) has a unique email that you can see in your Amazon account. You can email the file directly to your Kindle or Kindle app. Here are the instructions given by Amazon:

You and your approved contacts can send documents to your registered Kindle devices, free Kindle reading applications, and your Kindle Library in the Amazon Cloud by emailing them to your Send-to-Kindle email address ([name]@kindle.com). Your Send-to-Kindle email address is a unique email address assigned to each of your Kindle devices and free Kindle reading applications upon registration.

How to send a document to your Kindle:

NOOK:

Loading eBooks onto your Nook is just as easy as it is on the Kindle. If you have the USB cable that came with your Nook, here are the steps:

Step 1: Download the .epub file onto your computer and save it into a folder that you will remember.

Step 2: Connect the Nook to the computer with the USB cable.

Step 3: The Nook will show up as a drive, similar to a flash drive in your “my computer” folder or on the desktop for a Mac. Open the Nook folder, and open the folder containing your .epub file.

Step 4: Drag and drop the file to the root of your Nook or to the “my documents” folder.

That’s it.

If you have the Nook app on your computer or tablet, this is what you do:

Step 1: Download the file to your computer; save it in a folder you will remember.

Step 2: Open your Nook app.

Step 3: Right click or drag up from the bottom left of the screen. There will be an option in the bottom left corner to “import.” Select that, and then browse to select the book you want to import.

That’s it. You can also load it that way on your computer and then sync your tablet or phone to get the book onto those devices too.
