A moment with Lane & Abbie before they go Away Away…

“What about the time you wanted us all to get bee suits to protect us from killer bees?”

“Hey, that’s not fair.” He readjusted himself in his chair. “First off, we were really young. Secondly, there really were killer bees making their way north from Mexico. The threat was real.”

“It was just a bunch of bees.”

“No, it was a group of bees that the government trained. They were sent to find suitable bases for robot armies.”

“Robot armies? Do you even hear yourself when you talk, or does it just flow out on its own?”

The Occasional Update:

Ok, so just when you thought you knew everything about making lots of money as a writer (&/or a publisher)

–simply because you’re THAT GOOD

You find out there’s a lot more to it than you thought. And so there is. We took off like a rocket only to discover that you need to have a “constant supply of fuel” with a “fueler” (metaphorically speaking) who you then find out only has a contractual deal for people who have all their legal paperwork with i’s dotted and t’s crossed and x amount of books in readied form (who you need a printer for, by the way) (well we knew that part!) and you need all this extra time in your day to read, read, read, edit, edit, edit, proof, proof, proof (even if it’s what you love to do anyway) and then there’s all this coordination that needs to occur amongst the staff, none of whom live or work under the same roof and who probably never will…and also the cover artists who are sprinkled here and there….

The point being, we haven’t forgotten about ANY of you who have either made a submission or have otherwise contacted us…

We are on it, we are working it, we are eating & breathing your stuff…

…so even if you haven’t heard from us in what you think would constitute a “timely manner,” please understand that we are still moving forward on each of your projects as quickly as we can while also crossing all our t’s and dotting all our i’s.

Our staff has increased in size as well, which should make things easier as we move forward. We will be in touch soon. Keep writing. 🙂

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet….” (Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet)

…But books…they are different. Some of my favorites are about as different as one could imagine: The Little Prince (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry), Manchild in the Promised Land (Claude Brown) and Lord of the Rings (J.R.R. Tolkien)…to name just three. And then I saw the movie “Genius” about the relationship between writer Thomas Wolfe and his editor, Maxwell Perkins. Fabulous. Now I want to read O, Lost, just based on the first few lines. “…a stone, a leaf, an unfound door; of a stone, a leaf, a door. And of all the forgotten faces.” –Thomas Wolfe pexels-photo-776647.jpeg

A New Publisher is Born

We were just like you at some point. We had finished writing a book (3 actually) and the whole process of trying to get them in front of a publisher to even be given a chance was beyond daunting. On top of that, the more we learned about getting published, the more we realized that not only were we going to have to do most of our own advertising anyway, we were also only going to get a small fraction of the profits from our hard work.

The whole point of finding a publisher, I thought, was that it would free me up so that I could write, and my agent/ publisher would take care of the rest- especially the marketing. Why would I want to go through a publisher, where they were going to keep most of my money, if I still had to do the one thing I didn’t know how to do- the marketing?  I mean, if we are going to have to do almost all of the work anyway, shouldn’t we get most of the money. Then the idea expanded. Why not figure this out for our own books and then offer it to others? We were going to have to learn about marketing and all of the other ins and outs of publishing anyway. So it just made sense to help others with what we learned too. We got to talking about it, and the idea for Sistership Publishing was born.

We truly believe that there are incredible stories out there just waiting to be shared with the world. Some have already been written and are just sitting around gathering dust while their authors try to figure out how to get them to a publisher. Some haven’t been written yet, but are waiting for the opportune moment to emerge into the world like a butterfly. It is our hope that we can help in unleashing these stories and giving their creators the ability to make a living doing what they truly desire- writing. It is our goal to turn Sistership Publishing into a veritable one-stop-shop for authors. If you have a story to tell, we would like to help you tell it. We can help with the editing, the cover design, getting your book into the formats that will make it profitable and then with the marketing campaign that will best suit your book.

An author shouldn’t have to give up all of the rights to their book just to get it published. And, they shouldn’t have to give up the vast majority of the profits.
