So there we were, two sisters and a friend, who all wanted to get our work out there. But it was so difficult getting noticed!
April, the younger sister, sold seven copies of her quite excellent book in a year-and-a-half on Amazon. We decided something had to change. It was that “fuck it” moment; we wanted to make it easier for all of us.
And the 15% to the author thing that is pretty much the standard amongst publishers didn’t seem fair either. After all, while writers may indeed have some labors of love, they also, if they’re lucky, write “for a living” to pay their rent, buy food and buy their shoes & socks.
But there was another reason for becoming our own publishing company, and pay attention now, because this is important:
April teaches at a public high school where the expectations aren’t that high for graduating students. But a few of her students let April read some of their fiction and it was really good!
WE WANT TO PUBLISH THE WORKS OF HIGH SCHOOL KIDS, & ACTUALLY MARKET THEIR BOOKS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. WHAT BETTER WAY COULD THERE BE TO FUND THEIR OWN COLLEGE EDUCATIONS OR GET THEM STARTED IN LIFE?
We recognize that talent is talent and production is production. We’d like to be your hope and the hope of the next generation.
HOPE IS A POWERFUL THING!
